Book Week Dress Up
Room 24 have finally chosen their book for book week : How the birds got their colours. This is a Dreamtime story. Students can dress in bright colours and perhaps have streamers, or something else, as wings. Seven students are going to be the crows and will be dressed all in black. I will purchase some colourful party hats to use as beaks and we will make some black ones.
NAPLAN Results
NAPLAN results went home with students today in their homework folders or in a plastic sleeve, along with an explanation pamphlet.

Writing Feature: The Planet Glop by Logan
The planet Glop was a big bit of splodge! There was one person living there. His name was Glot. he was a very nice guy but he was very noisy!! He sang and danced all the time so Glot had no one to sing and dance with. The week after an astronaut came. Glot said hi. he said he wanted to be the dirst ones to Glop!! Why? But I live here, I was born here. So do you want to dance now and sing? they said no!! Little Glot started crying. Glot ran away. While he was running he said you're mean. The men said who cares. Little Glot came back. Glot said get off my planet!! But they have destroyed everything!! They were gone. They put a flag there but Glot snapped it!! So another person came. His name was Plot. He liked to sing and dance so Plot and Glot were best friends for ever.
They cleaned up all of the mess.
Writing Feature: Life on Unocoina by Dakota
One cold day a man was one a mission to go to a new planet that a scientist discovered only two days ago. The planet was called Unocoina.
The scientist wanted the man to go to Unocoina. No one had ever been on the planet so they don't know if it's safe or not. The man got in his spaceship and took off. Unocoina was along way away from all the other planets.
The man landed on Unocoina. It looked like a desert but it had all types of different coloured sand. The water was fresh but it was rainbow! He saw a shiny rainbow city. It was gigantic. The astronaut walked in as soon as the man walked in he got a code on his wrist that can open doors.
When it was night the sky turned green. The mann rally wanted to go back home. When he went to sleep in the morning he was in his house on the sofa watching TV. He was so happy.
2017 Planning - are you leaving?
Dear Families
In order for me to be able to plan effectively for 2017 I need your help.
It is crucial that I know which children will be at the school in 2017 so I can make suitable staffing arrangements and know whether we will require any more transportable classrooms.
If you know that you will not be at Aubin Grove in 2017 please reply to this email AND let your child’s teacher know. The earliest you are able to provide me with this information, the sooner I can make important decisions about the above.
Please note that this request does not apply to students who will be attending the new school in Wandi in 2017.
Thank you very much for your cooperation.
Kind regards
Frank

Writing Feature: Talking Disaster by Katelyn
"Good morning," I heard someone say. It was like a lowish pitched voice. I had never heard. "I'm hungry," it said. "Maybe peanut butter or Cheezels." The voice sounded louder and louder until I saw my dog. "I'm hungryyyyyy!" she shouted.
"Aaahhhhhh!" I screamed as I ran into the kitchen. I grabbed a whole container of peanut butter." "You can talk?" I asked. "Can you stop talking?"
"Yes," she said quietly. "A person put a curse on me."
"Just you?" I asked.
"No, every animal in Australia," she said, "We've got to go to the zoo."
"How do you brake the curse?"
"Give every animal peanut butter," she said.
"Peanut butter?"
"Yep," she said.
"Let's go to buy peanut butter," I said.
When we got ot the shops there were no peanut butter containers.
"This is a problem," I said.
I saw a nice lady called Trish.
"Hello. What do you want?"
"Peanut butter," I said, "Do you have it?"

How we do our Writing sessions
In Room 24 we have our writing sessions on Thursday mornings. After I introduce the genre of writing, we do a Round Robin (Kagan Strategy). The students have a small whiteboard in each group. They have to write down all the criteria they can think of for that genre. For example, if we are writing a narrative, some of the criteria are that it needs an orientation, complication, resolution, onomatopoeia, characters, setting, WOW words etc. These are then written on the large whiteboard and students copy them into their books.
Then I give students a writing stimulus. The one above was about waking up and finding that your pet can talk. Our focus for this piece was using speech marks and we discussed how and when to use these. We also discussed this topic and brainstormed some ideas to write about. Then students have about 30 minutes to write their story. While writing, I play Mozart music - this is supposed to stimulate their brains and keep them focused during writing.
When the writing session is over student then have some time to edit their work. This week I introduced a writing goal sheet for students to check off where they think they are. After writing this week, we discussed the music and talked about how people used to dance to this. Students were eager to learn this sort of dancing so with the help of Youtube we tried some Regency dancing. It was a lot of fun and they enjoyed having a go!

Writing Feature: The Scientist by Olive
Once there was a successful scientist named
Mia. She worked in an underground lab by
herself. Mia’s lab was white and
blue. It probably was the most
outstanding lab you have ever seen!
One day Mia was making a tablet to help people who
are sick. The next day she finished the
tablet but when her test subject ate the tablet, he was rushed to hospital
because his belly was on fire.
Then Mia realised she added the wrong thing to the
tablet! The ingredient was lemon not flammable
lemon! So then the next day the tablets
were all finished and her test subject did not have to go to hospital.
When she sold the tablets, Mia had lots of money
to help sick kids. So Mia gave all that
money to doctors and nurses. The kids
were happy.
Writing Feature: The Scientist by Shevin
There was a scientist that was a meany and he
would make bad potions and give the people a scary life time. One day the bad scientist gave a bad potion
to the King because he was sick. Then he
went up to the King and said “Here is your medicine.”
The King drank it.
Then he was not breathing so the King died. Then the bell rang because the King was dead
and the soldiers were running to see who killed the King. But then five soldiers all died because of
the bad scientist. There was only two more knights and ten soldiers and then
they all died. But there was a good
scientist and they battled and the bad scientist lost and the good ones lived
happily ever after.
