Winter Solstice - Pyjama Day!! Friday, 24 June

Welcome to Winter Wonderland!

Celebrating the Winter Solstice at Aubin Grove Primary School

Friday June 24th 2016

Winter has arrived and we are going to celebrate!!

The Winter Solstice: is on the 21st June, however, this year we will be having a delayed celebration on Friday, 24th June.

The Solstice is an astronomical event that happens twice a year. Once in Summer and once in Winter. It occurs when the sun reaches its highest position in the sky as seen from the North or South Pole. During the Solstices the tilt of the axil of the Earth (in respect to the sun) is the maximum.

The Winter Solstice marks the shortest day of the year, so we thought we would celebrate this……..and the coming of longer, warmer days too!!!!!

We are going to rug up, get snuggly and wear our PJ’s. We will be ready for bed when we get home!

All classroom heaters will be turned off for an hour.! So make sure you are rugged up ready for the cold.

Wear:  Pyjamas, dressing gowns, hoodies, slippers etc. (You can pack or wear your sneakers to play in if you would prefer!)

Why:  We are celebrating the beginning of Winter and exploring life before electricity

Many thanks,
The Year Three Teaching Team
