This must come from the parent, not the student.

Celebrating the Winter Solstice - Pyjama Day
On Friday we celebrated the Winter Solstice by wearing pyjamas to school. It was a very comfy day. Thankfully we were all rugged up as we did not turn the heaters on all day!! Here is some of the fun we had.
We started the day with 'one hour of no power'. Thankfully there was enough light coming through the windows to keep working.

We played the Tic Toc Biscuit game. Students had to tell me what time the biscuit said. If they got it wrong I kept the biscuit, but if they got it right they got the biscuit. They eventually all won a biscuit.
Those students who remembered to bring in their sandwich got it toasted and we ate lunch in class.
Finally, every pyjama day needs a nap time.

Room 24 was well represented at the Inter-school Cross Country on Tuesday. Our runners were Noah, Olive, Thomas, Poppy, Logan, Asha and Tom. Aubin Grove Primary School won the Year 3 and 5 races and were also the overall champions!! Well done to all who ran!!
What Makes a Good Learner? What Makes a Good Teacher?
Yesterday we tried a very interesting activity in class. Students were asked "what makes a good learner?" After having some think time, they worked in groups and participated in an All Write Round Robin (Kagan Strategy), writing their ideas down on a sheet of paper. Some very interesting answers came out. I asked students if they think they discovered some things they needed to work on to become a good learner. It was good to see the students evaluating themselves in this way.
I also asked them "what makes a good teacher?" They were very excited about answering this one!! We did the same activity to come up with answers for this one and I will be looking at these to see where I can also improve - although I'm pretty sure I got the "loud" bit covered.

Tissue Shortage!!
We have 6 boxes of tissues left in Room 24 and winter is well underway. If you did not send in your tissues at the beginning of the year (and there are 11 students who did) could you please send them in now.
Winter Solstice - Pyjama Day!! Friday, 24 June
Welcome to Winter Wonderland!
Celebrating
the Winter Solstice at Aubin Grove Primary School
Friday June 24th 2016
Winter
has arrived and we are going to celebrate!!
The
Winter Solstice: is on the 21st June, however, this year we will be having a
delayed celebration on Friday, 24th June.
The
Solstice is an astronomical event that happens twice a year. Once in Summer and
once in Winter. It occurs when the sun reaches its highest position in the sky
as seen from the North or South Pole. During the Solstices the tilt of the axil
of the Earth (in respect to the sun) is the maximum.
The
Winter Solstice marks the shortest day of the year, so we thought we would
celebrate this……..and the coming of longer, warmer days too!!!!!
We
are going to rug up, get snuggly and wear our PJ’s. We will be ready for bed
when we get home!
All
classroom heaters will be turned off for an hour.! So make sure you are rugged up ready for the cold.
Wear: Pyjamas, dressing gowns, hoodies, slippers
etc. (You can pack or wear your sneakers to play in if you would prefer!)
Why: We are celebrating the beginning of Winter
and exploring life before electricity
Many
thanks,
The
Year Three Teaching Team

Lunchtime Concerts
This term’s Junior Lunchtime Concert, coming up in the last week of term, is on Wednesday June 29th, in the undercover Assembly Area, from 12.50-1.15pm.
The final lunchtime audition will be next Wednesday on June 15th in the LC1 Music
room with Ms Kidd, from 12.50-1.15pm. After this session, a number of acts will be
chosen from all of the auditions that have been held at lunchtime throughout the term.
The week 9 rehearsal will only be for the students who will be performing at the
final Concert, so we won’t be having an audience on that day.
Only the students who have been chosen to perform at the final Concert in week ten,
will be given a note for their parents. Unfortunately we only have about twenty
minutes for the show, which only allows for about six performances.
As per last term, parents are very welcome to attend this wonderful occasion. It’s very difficult having to choose only six/seven acts, as there are so many eager little performers. I know that
there are always some disappointed ones, so I would appreciate you encouraging them
to continue to come the next term and to keep practising!
As per the note that went out to parents and caregivers in February, we will follow the
same format for the Lunchtime Concerts throughout the year:
Auditions are held every Wednesday at lunchtime, from 12.50-1.15pm in the
LC1Music room with Ms Kidd.
Students are not required to attend every week, but if chosen will need to
attend a rehearsal in the week prior to the Concert.
Students are encouraged to practise their item in their own time, working on
their singing, choreography and planning an appropriate outfit for the
performance.
Parents will be notified if their child is selected.
Students are not required to sign up or give notice for the auditions,
but to make life easier, they are encouraged to see Ms Kidd before school,
with the details of the song that they require, together with the names &
classes of all members in the act.
Please feel free to contact me if you have any further queries at: Roberta.kidd@education.wa.edu.au
