Dear Parents
Planning for Term 4 is underway. As it is close to Christmas we will be doing some Christmassy activities. If your family does not celebrate Christmas please email me to let me know, then I will alter the activities for your child. They will still be doing the same work just not with a Christmas theme.
Thank you
Regards

Open Night Success
Thank you ALL for coming to Open Night last night. We had 100% of families represented!! There was lots of great, positive feedback about all the hard work the students have done and had on display.
The Progress Folders that you took home will show you how much your child has progressed over the year so far. I was extremely impressed with the improvement - something I sometimes forget when I see their work on a daily basis. It's always good to look back as see how far they have come. Please take your time looking through the documents in the file and discussing with your child. Files will be due back the first week of next term.

Fume Free Friday
Dear Families
To support Active Kids are Healthy Kids, we are having our second Fume Free Friday on 16th September. Please join us in walking, riding or even scooting to school and help keep our environment clean and healthy. If you live a far distance from the school, we encourage you to still participate in this event by parking your car at the community oval and walking the rest of the way to school.
On your arrival at school, please go to LC4 to receive a cold milo. We would like to encourage students to bring their own plastic reusable cup from home to have their milo in at school. Students can then wash and take their cup home at the end of the school day. The incentive is to reduce our wastage.
We look forward to seeing lots of active kids! Thank you for supporting this fantastic event.
Kind regards
Sustainability Committee

Procedure Writing
We have started Procedure writing in Room 24. To kick this off students got into small groups. One student had to pretend they were a kindy kid and didn't know how to tie their shoe laces. The other two students had to explain how to do it. I instructed the 'kindy kids' that they were not to do anything unless they were told. Students playing kindy kids found it difficult to forget what they already know and those giving instructions found it hard to break the task into small components. Once they had a go at this they then had to complete their own writing task about brushing teeth. You can view these on open night.
Maths Club in Room 24
Maths Club has started in Room 24. Wednesday lunchtime I am opening the classroom for students to come in and practise their Maths skills. We have a Time Table station, Word Problem station, Maths Game station and then the Individual Help station where students can ask for help on anything they are struggling with. Maths Club started last week with 4 girls coming in. This week we had about 10 students.
Writing Feature: The Flying Saucer by Noah
Suddenly a gigantic flying saucer came out of the clouds and crash landed in my backyard. Just then the atmosphere disappeared and everyone was floating and the small flying saucers froze and were floating in the air. Everyone was trying to get to the ground and run but no one could. Aliens came out of the flying saucer and chased all the people and locked them up to a gate in the flying saucer. They put the bullies with the small kids and the robbers with the richest people. One boy escaped and tried to find a key for the gate and it was guarded by all of the people. The little boy snuck up on them and snuck the key for the gate. That moment every one escaped and did kung fu on the troops and every one fell asleep and floated out of the flying saucer. They left that instant and everyone felt like home again but everything was floating and they got used to it.

The Great Aussie Crunch - Wednesday, 7 September
Dear Parents/Caregivers,
On
Wednesday 7th September the whole school will be participating in ‘The
Great Aussie Crunch’. At 10:00 we will be making the loudest CRUNCH we
can. Please could you make sure that your child brings in crunchy fresh
fruit or vegetables.
Crunch
and Sip is a program run by the Cancer Council and aims to highlight
the importance of eating fresh fruit and vegetables throughout the day.
By eating a range of fresh fruit and vegetables daily, children gain
more energy to achieve greater successes in the classroom. You will
have received some information this week regarding Crunch and Sip which
will assist you in providing the very best snacks for your child.
If you have any queries please do not hesitate to contact your child’s teacher or karen.barford@education.wa.edu.au.
Regards,
Karen Barford
