Chicken Pox Alert
Please be aware that we have our second confirmed case of Chicken Pox in the class, and a third one for Year 3. All these students had been immunised and still contracted a mild case. Their pox have appeared like mosquito bites. Chicken Pox is highly contagious and usual begins with cold like symptoms.

Show Your Colours Day
TOMORROW IS SHOW YOUR COLOURS DAY!! Come to school in your favourite team colours and bring along a $2 donation.
Paper Planes and Maths
This may look like Miss Calvert just took Room 24 out to the oval for a little fun throwing paper planes. However, it was an important lesson on length. What are reliable units of measurement? What units would be best to measure these distances? What implement could we use to measure it? How far did your plane go? For answers to these questions, ask your child.
Science with Mr Crake
This week Room 23 joined Room 24 for a fabulous Science Experiment lesson. Thank you to Mr Crake for being our Head Scientist!

Merit Certificate, Tassie Devil Certificate, Flags and Class Stars
Congratulations to Andres for receiving our latest Merit Certificate for being a Times Table Champ.
Well done to Noah. He entered the Tasmanian Devil drawing competition and received a Certificate of Participation.
Students have been learning about Australia and flags in HASS. They created these wonderful flag drawings. I was very impressed by some of the artistry.
Each week I pick a Class Star. This is usually based on behaviour and effort. Our first six Class Stars are Katelyn, Asha, Celina, Noah, Jamie and Fletcher.

Week 7 News
Waste Free Monday
Waste Free Mondays have begun. This is where students and staff are to bring in recess and lunches that have no packaging. This is easily achieved with fruit, sandwich sized containers, or purchasing items such as biscuits in large packages and transferring small amounts into containers for school rather than purchasing packets of individually wrapped serves (this is also a lot cheaper).
Junior Choir
The choir is held every Wednesday from 2.50pm til 3.30pm. The choir teacher would love to see about 10 more Year 3 students attending choir. Please discuss with your child and consider allowing them to attend choir.
Room 24 Facebook Page
Just a reminder that our parent rep, Nat, has created a Facebook page for the class. It is AGPS Room 24 2016. Over half the class are already members. This page is used for updates, ask questions, networking and organising get togethers. Big thanks to Nat for taking on the Parent Rep position and creating the page.

Parent Rep and Facebook Page
Thank you to Natalie Phillips for taking on the Parent Rep role for Room 24. She has created a Facebook page for parents to join for information, arranging get togethers etc. The group is AGPS Room 24 2016 (the picture is a fish). This is a closed group and you will need to click on the 'Join Group' bar then wait for Natalie to approve you. I will be giving her a list of all parent names - if your Facebook name is different from your actual name then please send her a personal message so she will know to approve you. It's good to see 12 out of 23 families have already joined the page!
Emails -Parent Interviews
I have had a number of parents tell me that they did not receive an email with their interview time. I have double checked my sent file and all emails were sent to the email addresses that the school has recorded. If you did not receive an email from me, please check your 'Junk' folder. If it is still not there please email me with your correct email address.
Thank you
Thank you

What an amazing class!!!
WOW!! I was so impressed with my fabulous class on Friday morning. Their Morning Work was to 'play a game'. They love the maths games I have shown them and this can become a very rowdy time. However, instead of multiple noisy games happening, they got my Magical Maths Sticks and played a game together as a class!! It was not rowdy, I didn't have to give instructions or tell anyone to be sensible. I was totally amazed and so proud to be the teacher of this sensation class!!
Mid-Term Notes
I can't believe it's mid-term already!! It has flown past. I have had a few questions from parents so I thought I would answer them here.
Home Readers
From Year 3 students access home readers from the Library. Reading should be recorded in student's Homework Book. They have glued a Reading Log in the back. Our Library day is Wednesday so this is when students change their books. If they forget their Library bag on this day they can exchange books before school, after school except Tuesdays and lunchtimes on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
Homework
Homework is handed out every second Monday (odd weeks). Homework consists of a grid page, a maths sheet and their new spelling words. Students should be doing 20-30 minutes homework every night, this includes reading. Parents are to sign off items on the grid as they are completed.
Studyladder/Mathletics
Logins for these two online programs should be glued into the front of Homework books. Students are able to access these from home. If you do not have internet access at home please let me know.
Enjoy your long weekend.
